Gay Marriage; Who's to Say it Isn't Right?

CA Gay Marriage Trial to Resume After Long Break by Lisa Leff http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100612/ap_on_re_us/us_gay_marriage_trial_2

Straight From the Document:

Amendment 10- "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Connection:

There are same sex couples everywhere these days, it seems so average. Lots are aware of the gay marriage laws in some states. There are so many people against the thought of gay's marrying and starting a family. It just seems like a waste of energy to worry about what other human beings are doing if they aren't harming you.

If gay's choose to wed, they must do it within the six out of 50 states in the US. If the couple leaves the state they were wed in, into another state that does not allow gay marriage, they are considered not married. It is uncanny that they won't be married in another state besides one with the law. Some states however, are still debating if they should allow gay marriage or not. California is currently still debating. As of right now if a couple were to have wed between June 16, 2008 and November 4, 2008 they believe they violated the state constitution.

Straight From the Document:

Amendment One- "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Connection:

This article represents the freedom of assembly part of the first amendment. On Friday May 7th in Syracuse, about 500 high school student walked out of the school to protest school budget cuts. 31 million dollars was needed to be cut from the district school system and the students wanted none of it. For about two hours the students were urged to go back to school property, but they continued chanting and wrote "Save our teachers" across their chests. It is important to have freedom of assembly because it makes people feel like they don't have to just sit back and accept the mistreatment or unfairness.

Amendment Five- "No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury."

Connection:

For the R. Kelly trial, he chose to have a jury. With this decision, when it comes time to decide if the person on trial is guilty or not guilty. It is important to have a choice of having a jury because the judge may be bias and the person may have a better chance of getting off with a smaller penalty, depending on the crime at hand. This connects to the fifth amendment by showing that the person has a choice of having a jury or not and if it can help you.

Article Two, Section One- "The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America."

Connection:

On November 4, 2008 America had chosen a new President of the United States. Barack Obama was going to be the 44th President and vowed to be the chief executive, state, legislator, diplomat, administrator, and commander in chief.
