Budget Cuts? No Way!

500 Syracuse High School Students Walkout to Protest Budget Cuts by Joseph M. Dougherty http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700030422/500-Syracuse-High-students-walk-out-to-protest-budget-cuts.html

Straight From the Document:

Amendment One- "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Connection:

This article represents the freedom of assembly part of the first amendment. On Friday May 7th in Syracuse, about 500 high school student walked out of the school to protest school budget cuts. 31 million dollars was needed to be cut from the district school system and the students wanted none of it. For about two hours the students were urged to go back to school property, but they continued chanting and wrote "Save our teachers" across their chests. It is important to have freedom of assembly because it makes people feel like they don't have to just sit back and accept the mistreatment or unfairness.

  1. I love your titles and you've selected good articles and images. But--we're missing our last 3 entries and I'd like to see more analysis of your topics--especially in regards to school budgetcuts--why not connect it to CPS??
